(Intro to our 7th Issue of Milk & Honey Comic Anthology coming out in April 2025)
Milk & Honey is all about being a part and contributing to the community of small press comics. Despite being a lifelong artistic type, my first real introduction to this world was when my good buddy, Jesse Mead, took me up to attend Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland one year. I was absolutely floored by how passionate and original everyone’s works were, and to discover the truth that you can just make your own stories and put yourself out there. Milk & Honey‘s first issue came out at the following year’s show. It featured a lot of the now-longtime friends that I had made at my first SPX. Each issue kept growing, and more friends have been made. When COVID hit in 2020, we slowed down our anthology series, but as soon as we were able to, we made sure to attend lots of shows all along the American Southeast.

Inspired by the community and zine fest coordinators around us, we are proud to announce that in 2018, we created our city’s first indie comic festival. Held in Wilmington, NC. Stone Soup Zine Fest is an annual show that has been held at the end of the Summer. Although we are far from the magnitude of shows like Small Press Expo, we encourage you to follow our Instagram at @StoneSoupZineFest and attend! We really enjoy curating these events, and we look forward to hosting you in beautiful coastal Carolina.

As well as increasing our event footprint, we hope to expand our publication catalogue beyond just our anthology series and include more original publications. At the end of 2024, we published our first original comic, Alexandria. It was written by myself and drawn by Jesse Mead. It is a “monster-of-the-week” adventure about a group of high schoolers who discover dark secrets around their prestigious academy and each other. This first chapter is over 50 pages long and is formatted as a beautiful 2 issue risograph printed comic book. We’ve included an excerpt to kick off this issue so that you can check it out! We also encourage you to follow us at our website and on Instagram for more updates as we move into our next chapter of Milk and Honey.

And finally, please enjoy our newest anthology coming out in April 2025. We hope that you discover a new artist who inspires you to create a story of your own. We’ll see you out there.
